Where Things Stand Now
My sister isn’t speaking to me since that day. Relatives on both sides have started quietly picking teams, the way families do when nobody wants to be the one who says the uncomfortable thing out loud first.
I’m proud of the wedding we had. It reflected exactly who we are and what actually matters to the two of us, far more than a bigger budget ever could have. I didn’t expect quite this much fallout from thanking the people who showed up for me, and leaving out the two who technically wrote a check but never really showed up in any other way.
I keep turning it over in my head. Did I go too far by leaving my parents out of that speech entirely? And more than that — how do I handle the rest of my family acting like I’m the one who broke something, when all I did was tell the truth about who actually helped me build my own wedding?
