My Parents Treated My Sister Like Royalty and Me Like I Didn’t Matter—Their Biggest Mistake Was Underestimating Me

My parents spent sixty thousand dollars on my sister’s wedding, three years ago now. So when I got engaged last year, I naturally assumed they’d step up for me the same way — not necessarily dollar for dollar, but somewhere in the neighborhood. Instead, they handed me a check for two thousand dollars.

When I asked about the gap, my mom said it flatly, without a trace of apology in her voice. “You’re older. You can handle it yourself.”

I didn’t argue with her. I smiled, thanked them for the two thousand dollars, and started planning a smaller wedding with my fiancé, the two of us figuring out together what we could actually build with what we had.
